Kathy Marie Garness' specialty is illustrating orchids, both native to Illinois and tropical in origin, in close-focus watercolor technique and pen and ink. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Guild of Natural ScienceIllustrators. She currently  serves on the OPAL board and was past president of the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, Chicago. She is also active with Chicago Wilderness in habitat restoration, documentation and preserving rare native species. Her Bachelors in Visuals Arts is from DePaul University, Chicago and she holds a Masters in Religious Education from Loyola University. Her work has been published by the Native Orchid Confereence Journal, the Audubon Society and other public and privateorganizations. She has exhibited her work in various local and national venues for the past 25 years and teaches out of her home in Forest Park.

Bachelors in Visuals Arts is from DePaul University, Chicago.   Masters in Religious Education from Loyola University
