Adult Classes
Figure Sculpture
Taught by The Figurative Art League of Chicago
Sundays 1:00pm-4:00pm

This class will provide expert instruction and guidance from
one of Chicago’s most accomplished figure sculptors to
artists of all experience levels. Classes will incorporate time
tested techniques in proportion, anatomical study and
improving your observation skills. Every student will
receive personal attention and the opportunity to work
from a nude model each week.
Capturing Movement With Pigment and Line
Taught by Sharron Ott
Mondays 3:00pm-5:00pm

So often the subject matter in our art is stagnant, and yet
life is moving all around us. How could one capture, these
kinetic energies in an image? Students will have the
opportunity to draw from life, using live models, video, and
a variety of other sources. To capture more than just one
freeze frame moment, to record a period of time in a piece
of visual art. Students will draw with chacoal and paint in
their choice of pigmented materials.
Color Theory
Taught by Sharron Ott
Mondays 6:00pm-8:00pm

This class will delve into the fundamentals of Color Theory,
looking at different schools of thought on this magical
subject, such as the Bah House, and Modern Physics.
Class work will include color studies that help an artist
understand the unique properties of primary and secondary
colors, and then experiment with the different affects
achieved by combing of hues, values, and intensities. The
class will explore techniques of pigment mixing, optical
blending, and after imaging. The goal of the class is to give
the student a greater sense of comfort, and familiarity with
all of the colors, enabling them to enrich their personal
tonal vocabulary.
Painting Choose Your Medium
Taught by Carol Richardson-O'Brien

From beginners on, work at your own pace. Learn how
to stretch your own canvas, color theory, gallery framing, etc..

Intro to Mosaics
Taught by Martha Crandall from
the Chicago Mosaic School
Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:30pm
Members: $140 / Non-Members: $155 Material Fee: $15
This class will cover all the basic information students will need to complete
at least one project. This class is intended for beginning students who want to
learn the process of creating a mosaic piece; cutting, adhesion, tile layout,
and grouting. Students will complete a mosaic mirror or small panel to introduce
them to the possibilities of mosaic art.
Beginning Watercolor
Taught by Bob Kwas
Wednesdays 1:00pm-3:00pm
Members: $115 / Non-Members: $130
Watercolor for those who think they can't. We will dispell some myths about
watercolors as you learn the basics of materials, techniques and begin to
construct a painting, not just render your reference. Build your confidence
through exercises that build your skills as well as your ability to create a
painting. Materials will be discussed at the first class. If you already have
supplies please bring them to the first class.
The Body Cast
Taught by Anne Primack

Have you ever looked at your hand and imagined flowers
growing out of the fingers? How about a vase with the
casting of your face on the side? A pair of candlesticks made
out of your hands? Throughout the ages artist have turned
to the human form to find inspiration for their work. Join us
for this fun filled class where we will make a sculpture based
on some part of your body. First we will make a plaster
cast of the chosen body part and then we will use clay to
complete the sculptural form. Make it realistic or make it
abstract that will be totally up to you. Final pieces will be
available for pick up 10 days after the last class meets.
Soft Pastel
Taught by Didier Nolet
Thursdays 1:00pm-3:30pm
Members: $140/ Non-Members: $155
Soft pastel is probably the most sensual medium. Using
sticks that are made of pure pigment, you will create art with
a velvety surface that catches the light in a unique way.
It can be intense or subtle, but it is always striking. Learn
the tichniques and "tricks" from an expert in a friendly
atmosphere. All the other aspects of the creative process will
be addressed; including composition, perspective,
color, depth of field, contrast, and more.
House Portraits
Taught by Susan Bjornson
Thursdays 7:00pm-9:00pm
Members: $115 / Non-Members: $130
Create a beautiful watercolor portrait of your home. Learn how to use a
photograph of your house or other architectural subject to make a watercolor
painting. We will cover making an appropriate photograph for reference,
transferring the image to watercolor paper and then rendering of the image in
watercolor paints. This class is for any skill level.
Working in Oil: Finding Your Artistic Vision
Taught by Richard Laurent
Fridays 1:00-3:30
Members: $140 / Non-Members: $155
This class will include lecture and demonstrations.

Communicating your vision
Working method that succeed
Fine tuning you technique
Keeping your perspective
How to finish your painting
Class critique
There will be a 15-20 minute lecture at the beginning of each class.
